Our Origin
Competence with tradition
Whether under the legacy brand names of Girling and Lucas, or today as TRW and Sachs, we have decades of experience in motorcycle technology and continue to develop it continuously.
As early as the 1970s, Lucas supplied almost all European motorcycle manufacturers with components and spare parts. In the following decade, the independent aftermarket gained greater importance, and Lucas achieved market leadership, particularly in motorcycle brake pads.
In 1999, TRW Automotive took over Lucas’ business division and has continued to develop the product line consistently – including certification of TRW motorcycle parts according to automotive standards, expansion of the product portfolio, and much more.
Since 2001, the company formerly known as Fichtel & Sachs, renamed ZF SACHS AG, has been part of the ZF Group. Starting with the “Torpedo freewheel hub” in 1903, the company grew closely connected to the two‑wheel core business: the production of vehicle engines, clutches, and shock absorbers.
In 2015, TRW was integrated into ZF Friedrichshafen AG, making TRW an additional brand in the ZF aftermarket portfolio.
With the TRW brand, we are market leaders in many European countries in high‑quality braking components and clutch systems. In addition, we also develop and distribute steering systems for various motorcycle types. SACHS is also part of the aftermarket portfolio specializing in clutch systems.
