In this guide, we’ll review the VCI (vehicle communication interface) connection types, how to switch connection type and when a wired connection is preferred.

The ZF MultiScan has the ability to connect wirelessly to the VCI or hard-wired using the included USB cable. Certain functions, like support on demand SOD, require a wired connection.

To switch connection modes, exit all applications and return to the home screen.

In this example we’ll switch from WiFi to Wired.

Begin by connecting the included USB cable to the Tablet and the VCI.

Press the VCI RESET button.

Then, open an application, for example the diagnostic application.

The VCI now shows a wired connection.

Now that we’re running a wired connection, I’ll connect the DC charging cable from the tablet to the VCI, and attach it using the included clips.

This step ensures the tablet has adequate voltage for programming, during an SOD service.

To switch back to wireless, repeat the previous steps after removing the USB cable.

In the rare event of a connection issue, reset both the VCI and the tablet.
