Undertake a visual inspection and it’s plain to see that the bush has broken and that the rubber void has deteriorated and using a suitable tool, simulate the excessive movement of the bush which indicates the track control arm needs replacing.
On receiving the new parts, check any literature within the box as this may contain specific fitting instructions which must be followed. Apply releasing agents to the fixing bolts at either end of the old track control arm and proceed to remove the fixing bolts.
The old arm can then be removed and replaced with the new arm which can be bolted in position.
Note: It is imperative that the bolts are not tightened at this stage.
Lower the vehicle to the floor such that the suspension takes up its normal set position i.e. supporting the weight of the vehicle. At this point, you can now torque the fixing bolts in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Once both fixings have been torque, now check the wheel alignment which should always be undertaken after any steering or suspension component has been replaced. It is also important when checking the wheel alignment that the tyres are at the correct pressure. Check the wheel alignment using appropriate equipment and if any adjustments are necessary, proceed to make these.
