Innovation from the industry leader
The best electric parking brake
ZF is proud to offer the industry leading Electric Park Brake (EPB).
This advanced system sets standards for quality, reliability and safety. The system eliminates the need for mechanical cables. With the EPB solution, compact actuators apply the parking brake, offering improvements in installation, performance and driving comfort.
The benefits:
- Automatic apply and release functions available
- Removes need for cables, which greatly simplifies installation
- Greater freedom for interior design
- Leaves center tunnel free for other features
- Self diagnostic
- Independent dynamic braking (maximum 0.3 g)

Design of the EPB actuator
The actuator in the 4th generation consists of a two-stage planetary gear set in a smaller design.
- Maximum clamp load 25 kN
- Total ratio ~ 120:1
- Belt drive ratio ~ 3:1
- Planetary gear set ratio ~ 40:1
- Thread pitch on spindle 1 mm
- Multi-tooth output on spindle
- Maintenance-free
The EPB actuators are newly available in the aftermarket product range for AUDI, BMW, Porsche, VW and many others under the new code "STA" with which all EPB actuators start.
Notes for the workshop
Useful information for the workshop
- Brake calipers should always be replaced in pairs
- ZF Aftermarket grants a 3-year warranty on all brake calipers
- Only replace actuators individually if you have made sure that the brake caliper has no defects
- Actuators can be replaced without disassembling the brake caliper
- Repair is provided only with suitable diagnostic unit
- Notches on the piston have no function – do not press the piston back while rotating, as this damages the spindle
- After replacing EPB calipers or EPB actuators, the handbrake system must be calibrated
- Hydraulic and electromechanical actuation of the EPB work independently
