Your gearbox condition monitoring tool – always informed
Monitoring a train's gearbox is crucial for efficient maintenance as it enables early detection of wear or faults, preventing costly failures and ensuring optimal performance and safety.
Remotely measuring vibration, temperature and oil debris the Smart Oil Plug® gives you valuable insights to your fleet's condition.
The Smart Oil Plug® meets the demand to provide real-time, wireless gearbox condition monitoring to transform maintenance practices. The on-board transceiver and plug can be seamlessly adapted to any rail application.
Together with Transmission Dynamics we provide holistic support to assist enhancing the reliability of your fleet.
The data is collected and visualised within your personal online data dashboard, providing you with valuable insights into your fleet health.
With this data you can address issues before failure, enabling preventative maintenance.
HARDWARE & INSTALLATION
The control unit’s transceiver contains a SIM card for GSM data communication and the Smart Oil Plug® uses Bluetooth BLE 4.2 to transmit data to the transceiver. Each Smart Oil Plug® version is custom-designed to replace the original oil plug – same fit, same form, same function.
Our hardware is tested and EMC accredited (environmental, shock and vibration).
1. Transceiver per bogie (x1)
The transceiver is connected to the Smart Oil Plug® via Bluetooth. An installation bracket is developed for fitment to the vehicle and it can be mounted to the bogie or vehicle.
2. Smart Oil Plug® per bogie (x1)

The VCU Pro Onboard Unit
To securely acquire and process the sensor data the VCU Pro Onboard Unit contains two independent processors, four CAN interfaces, four analog input and four digital output ports. It supports Bluetooth, wireless network and all common GNSS.
