Licensing

We offer two types of licenses for ZF MultiScan: ZF MultiScan Car and ZF MultiScan Truck & Trailer & Bus. The diagnostics for light commercial vehicles (LCV) are included in both licenses. Both licenses can also be combined, allowing a workshop to perform diagnostics on any type of vehicle. Each license is active for a minimum of 12 months. Most of our workshops choose a 36-month licence, our most cost-effective offer.

Activation of your ZF MultiScan license is part of the installation process. Simply follow these steps:

  • Connect your Windows tablet or laptop to the Internet.
  • Plug in your security dongle provided with your DCI package.
  • The license included in your package activates automatically—no extra steps are needed.

You need an Internet connection during the initial launch. Online access is also necessary to install any available updates. Once the license is activated, ZF MultiScan can be used offline in your workshop. Remember, however, that optional elements of a bundle (such as Haynes Pro access) may always require an active Internet connection. Every 60 days, ZF MultiScan software will prompt you to go online for license verification via a dedicated popup.

The license is tied to a specific DCI and cannot be used with more than one DCI at a time. You may, however, move the security dongle between more than one device. For example, you can move it from a tablet to a PC, and the license remains valid.

You will receive a notification well in advance to ensure you can renew your license without interruption. You can also contact Customer Support at any time for details about your license expiration date at support-multiscan.aftermarket-europe@zf.com

After expiration, ZF MultiScan will continue to run based on the last update you received while your subscription was active. However, the other functions will be limited. You will no longer receive new releases. You will also lose warranty coverage, Haynes Pro access or technical support until you renew your subscription again. Your Secure Gateway access in ZF MultiScan will expire, too.

When you need to check your license status, simply open ZF MultiScan softwre, click Help in the main menu and then select License to view a clear breakdown of your license—including its start date, duration and expiration date—and if you have any questions or need further assistance, you can always reach out to Customer Support at support-multiscan.aftermarket-europe@zf.com

Secure Gateway access

Secure Gateway Access in ZF MultiScan lets technicians sign in just once to unlock OEM-blocked ECUs for advanced diagnostics, giving workshops full access where manufacturers restrict it while staying fully compliant with their cybersecurity requirements.

Our Secure Gateway feature is approved by a number of original vehicle manufacturers, including Alfa Romeo, Audi, Cupra, Dacia, Fiat, Ford, Honda, IVECO, Jeep, Kia, Lancia, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Porsche, Renault, SEAT, Škoda, Volkswagen, and Volvo. Also, we are consistently expanding the number of supported manufacturers.

The Secure Gateway Access feature is included with your package at no additional cost with the exception of IVECO.

Secure Gateways are generally found in newer vehicles (typically from 2019 onward). When you connect your ZF MultiScan interface, you will see a message indicating the presence of Secure Gateway protection.

Until online authentication is completed, you might experience limited functionality (such as read-only access). This system ensures security compliance, unlocks full diagnostic capabilities, and verifies the technician's identity before granting access to critical vehicle systems.
