Automatic clutch cables are equipped with a safety device to prevent unlocking of the adjustment mechanism of the cable. The safety device must not be released or removed until the cable has been installed in the vehicle. Unfortunately it happens time and again that these safety devices are damaged during transport or inadvertently removed before installation. In this case, the cable cannot be installed.

We want to use three examples in this practical advice manual to show how to mechanically reset the clutch cables to allow installation again.

How-to-guide

GCC102

The video above demonstrates resetting the cable with the part number GCC102 (Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner). In this case, handling is relatively easy: First push the inner cable from the clutch side to the stop into the outer cable. Then pull the inner cable out again completely which puts the automatic adjuster into its starting position. Now the safety device can be locked and the cable can be installed.

This video demonstrates resetting the cable with the part number GCC3106 (also Citroen Berlingo). In this example, resetting is carried out from the pedal side: First push the inner cable into the outer cable, again all the way to the stop, until the protruding plastic sleeve engages audibly (video with sound!). Then the adjustment mechanism can be pushed together through the outer cable and therefore reset. Before installation, the inner cable has to be pushed through the outer cable from the clutch side. The cable fixed in this way (e.g. cable tie) can now be installed in the vehicle.

This video demonstrates resetting the cable with the part number GCC1783 (Seat Arosa, Seat Cordoba). Resetting this device is a little more complicated and it may require several attempts until the locking device engages – so do not give up too easily! First push the adjustment unit together from the clutch side. It is important to create sufficient counter pressure on the pedal side. Then push the adjustment unit together from the pedal side. Once this has been successful, the mechanism has to be secured. This can be done by a second mechanic, using cable ties. The cable fixed in this way can now be installed in the vehicle.

In addition to this practical advice manual you can find service information on handling the second example GCC3106 here.

Some cables are supplied with installation information to prevent inadvertent releasing of the safety device before installation.
