Light of Glory Taxi - Here for the Long run

Go Taxi has been Mr Joseph Vincent Go’s family business since 1975. But in 1993, he decided to strike out on his own, and formed Light of Glory Taxi Services in Ilo Ilo, Philippines. Starting with just three taxi units then, Light of Glory is now the leading taxi service in Ilo Ilo – with a 220-unit-strong taxi fleet, 405 drivers, 60 administrative and marketing staff, and 35 mechanics.

“In this industry, excellent supplier service and the reliability of our car parts are important,” said Mr Go, Owner and General Manager of Light of Glory Taxi Services. He found out about ZF through Mr Mar Ongsiaco, Euro Auto Parts Center Inc (EAP), ZF’s distributor in Philippines. Impressed by the range of products and services, Mr Go made the switch and has been working with EAP for the past nine months.

“Initially, we thought ZF’s spare parts were expensive,” he said, “but we realised that they were of a better quality – each part lasted longer and we ended up saving on operational costs. Our SACHS shockabsorbers have yet to be replaced since we started working together!” He compared ZF’s products (SACHS shock absorbers and LEMFÖRDER steering and suspension components) to their cheaper counterparts adding that the previous shock absorbers they used had to be replaced after just four months.

“Our mechanics now have more time to focus on other maintenance problems, which will ultimately improve the quality of our taxi rides,” explained Mr Go. He is also impressed by the quality service and support delivered by ZF’s distributor, EAP who equipped them with free tools and trainings to learn better maintenance practices such as how to prolong the lifespan of their parts. The taxi industry in the Philippines is a fiercely competitive environment, where fleet growth is regulated by the government (a maximum of 1,900 operational taxis are allowed in Ilo Ilo city). Rising to the challenge, Mr Go expands by upgrading his services – replacing his units with newer models and training his staff to deliver quality service. ZF’s high quality parts have not only aided in boosting his current fleet, but given him the assurance that his new fleet will operate just as well, if not better. “So far, ZF has supplied us with parts for 110 Toyota VIOS taxi units,” Mr Go said. “We are looking to continue the business relationship for our other taxi models, which include the Hyundai Accent and KIA Rio.”

With a new fleet of taxis coming, Mr Go is keen on further collaboration. “It is our policy to establish good relationships with our suppliers. ZF’s distributor EAP has given us reliable, quality service and I look forward to continue working with them in the future.”
