Craig Lowndes

Craig Lowndes trusts SACHS Shock Absorbers & Clutches on and off the race track

SACHS shock absorbers and clutches have been an intrinsic part of Supercar racing in Australia for more than a decade. Indeed, SACHS equipped Supercars won 9 races across the 2017 season, their drivers collectively standing on the podium 28 times and scoring five pole positions.

SACHS’ most visible involvement with Supercars is via its long-time Ambassador Craig Lowndes, the sport’s most popular and successful-ever driver. Over the past 14 seasons, Australian motorsport legend Craig has relied exclusively on SACHS shock absorbers and clutches in his Triple Eight Race Engineering prepared Supercars, with the combination proving to be incredibly successful. Together, SACHS and Lowndes have claimed more than 50 V8 Supercars Championship race victories, including five of his six Bathurst 1000 titles.

Craig Lowndes Teams Up with SACHS for 2018

Australian motorsport legend Craig Lowndes will continue to rely on SACHS shock absorbers and clutches in 2018, signing on for a sixth straight year as the official ambassador for the brand.

In a testament to the quality and proven performance of the SACHS brand, this will be the 14th season Lowndes has relied exclusively on SACHS shock absorbers and clutches in his Triple Eight Race Engineering-prepared Supercars, including in his latest entry under the Autobarn Lowndes Racing banner.

Together, SACHS and Lowndes have claimed 53 Supercars Championship race victories, including five Bathurst 1000 titles.

Not only does Lowndes trust and rely on SACHS components whilst on the race track, but the teamís Iveco truck and transporter are factory-fitted with shock absorbers and clutches from the SACHS commercial vehicle range.

Throughout 2018, SACHS branding will be prominently displayed on Lowndesí distinctive helmet and racesuit.

For Lowndes, a fully trained motor mechanic, working with SACHS products on the race track comes naturally.

With SACHS shock absorbers and clutches having helped him to more than half of his record 105 Supercar Championship race wins, Craig takes an active role in the performance of these components.

"Frankly, one of the biggest contributors to car performance is the shock absorbers, so our work with SACHS means we are forever developing in this area," Craig Lowndes explains.

"Getting the damping right makes a huge difference to the carís behaviour on track and therefore your lap speed and tyre longevity, both critical to winning races."

Being three times more popular than the next most popular driver is a strong start when it comes to being a brand ambassador, but it is Lowndesí ability to talk with real credibility about using the product that makes such a difference.

"No question, when I am representing SACHS, I am able to talk about the brand with genuine first-hand experience," Craig Lowndes said.

Mark Sookias, Managing Director, ZF Services Australia explained, "Craig is obviously immensely popular and widely recognised across Australia, but it is his credibility that brings so much to the SACHS brand."

"Craig genuinely uses the product and has real-world experience with it. His background as a motor mechanic also means that he understands the product and its performance. So when he talks about safety, reliability, performance and trust, you know you can rely on what he says.

"For SACHS it's the perfect solution - Craig is someone who is enormously respected, very well liked, widely recognised, realistic and totally credible. Whilst he is able to represent our brand to a broad range of customers, it is his authenticity that we admire and respect, and which synchronises perfectly with our business. We're very appreciative of having such a direct link between Craig and the SACHS brand."

"We are very proud of our long-term partnership with Craig and are looking forward to supporting him in his championship challenge this season."

“It’s great to be back on the podium.

“It really is a team effort and it’s all about strategy.

“It’s great to be back on the podium.

“That last lap I backed off and really enjoyed the lap for what it was, I could see the crowd going wild across the top and saw their flags flying.

“It’s a great time for us and it’s great to get back on the podium and to be on the top step with Steven.

“It’s an honour to have our names on the Peter Brock Trophy. We worked pretty hard today, our car got better as the day went on which is what we needed.

“I think I’m pretty set for the year now after winning Bathurst.”

Over the past 11 seasons, Lowndes has depended exclusively on SACHS shock absorbers and clutches in his Triple Eight Race Engineering V8 Supercars, and has earned a total of 49 championship race wins.

In a total of 22 Bathurst 1000 starts, Lowndes now has 13 podium finishes to his credit, a new all-time record, while he also claimed victory in the 2014 Bathurst 12 Hour.

The result comes after SACHS products have won the past seven V8 Supercars Championships, and the past five team’s championships with Triple Eight.

For SACHS and parent company ZF, Lowndes’s victory is a massive boost for the brand locally.

“On behalf of ZF, we would like to congratulate Craig, Steven and all of the Red Bull Racing Australia team on their remarkable effort to win the Bathurst 1000 over the weekend,” said ZF Services Australia Managing Director Chris Adcock.

“Earlier this year Craig claimed his 100th career race victory, which has a fantastic synergy with 2015 being ZF’s 100th year.

“Craig is the perfect Brand Ambassador for SACHS, he is one of the most recognisable sports stars in Australia, and he actually relies on our products on the race track and on the road.

“Of course what we do here at ZF on the race track is use the latest technologies, and transfer that into the products we have for everyday passenger cars.

“We wish Craig and the team all the very best for the remaining rounds in the season.”

Not only does Lowndes depend on SACHS components in his Red Bull Racing Australia Holden Commodore, but the team's truck and transporter are fitted with shock absorbers from the wide SACHS' commercial vehicle range.

In the passenger car aftermarket, SACHS has a shock absorber solution for 95 percent of the cars in Australia, including European, American, Asian and locally produced models.

The partnership with Lowndes sees SACHS branding placed on the highly visible visor of his distinctive helmet, as well on his driving suit.

Locally, SACHS motorsport products are available through Triple Eight Race Engineering for the track, while the full range of SACHS shock absorbers and clutches for the road is available through ZFServices Australia.

Relying on SACHS Formula Matrix Dampers and a SACHS carbon racing clutch, Lowndes was able to power ahead in an action packed race, with the result cementing his position in the top-two championship positions.

“For me, it’s just been a great career and I’ve been fortunate enough to be in some very good teams,” said Lowndes.

“Part of me is just so thankful to get it over and done with and get the 100th win.

“It’s nice to now finally have it done so I’ll try and get 101 now.

“It’s a great feeling! It’s a credit to the team as at the beginning of the race we didn’t know if we had the speed.

    “For me it’s been fantastic.”

Lowndes’ top-line touring car career started with a bang in 1994 on his Bathurst 1000 debut, when he placed second after passing the car of John Bowe late in the running.

His championship debut came in 1996, where he won on his first outing, before going on to claim the overall title.

Throughout his 19 year career, Lowndes has won five Bathurst 1000 crowns and three V8 Supercar Championships, for outfits such as the Holden Racing Team, 00 Motorsport, Ford Performance Racing, and his current squad, Triple 8 Race Engineering.

Over the past 11 seasons, Lowndes has depended exclusively on SACHS shock absorbers and clutches, and has earned a total of 48 championship race wins.
