Introduction of new technology is never easy

Our PRIMOVE is a complete e-mobility portfolio allowing cities and the transportation industry to incorporate electric mobility easily. It includes wireless charging, compact batteries and efficient propulsion systems for electric rail and road vehicles. We are one of the world's largest companies in the rail vehicle and equipment manufacturing and servicing industry. However, we face general problems while introducing a new technology. Inductive charging is not widely spread and a lot of people don’t feel confident about this technology although the results are great.

We have cooperated with OPENMATICS from the beginning of our research and development. This had proved to be a good step as we have already solved many problems successfully. The last goal was to develop a compact battery and driving system for electrically powered buses, based on the idea of inductive battery charging at bus stops. We needed OPENMATICS to develop a flexible and fast telematics system for remote buses, batteries, and charging stations monitoring, while regulating wireless communication between the buses and charging stations.

Skilled OM experts were reliable partners for our R&D. They prepared existing apps to suit our company but they also developed custom-made diagnostics and remote control apps to measure and evaluate battery consumption, charge level, and vehicle data, and also to monitor the recharging of batteries at the charging stations. Now we exchange information between buses and charging stations wirelessly via Bluetooth Smart, which helps save energy. The WCU remote control app also provides us with remote access to charging stations control units and allows our customers to download firmware updates over-the-air. We are working with OPENMATICS experts on improving the current solution yet further to increase the charging efficiency.
