A SMART, EFFICIENT, COST-SAVING SOLUTION FOR LOGISTICS

OPENMATICS provided a valuable solution for one of the world market leaders in system logistics.

A SERIES OF CHALLENGES

Our client is a major player in the European Logistics, Air & Sea Logistics and Food Logistics business segments, providing transport, warehousing and value-added services but was facing challenges. It didn't know just how much time was being spent by trucks in the logistics area. The loading and unloading chain inside of the area was not a transparent process; there was no clear ‘time loop’ and it was not possible to measure how much time was being spent by each truck at each gate. Also, our client was suffering manual errors and losses of valuable assets in the area.

A FAR-REACHING OPTIMISATION

To solve these problems we developed a customised solution using TAG to TAG communication, the benefit being that you don't need so many TAG Finders. Our client could now monitor which trucks were in the logistics area at a given time and how much time each one spent there. Our client could also see the location, current status and history of each trailer and monitor external logistics, tracking trucks and trailers in transit. Other benefits included the ability to gather information on the actual occupancy of loading bays to minimize necessity for manual checks of trailers and other assets in the depot. This resulted in significant costs savings and a marked reduction in errors. Our client now benefitted from a transparent loading and unloading chain, feedback on the organisation of intra logistics and a far-reaching optimisation of inside processes.

The OPENMATICS asset tracking solution was modified according to our customer's needs and its own logistics system using the deTAGtive logistics Portal and app for TAG management, TAG 1, TAG 4 (power supplied TAG), TAG Finder OUT and the Bach onboard unit.

Our solution for this market-leading business was a smart, less complex and less expensive infrastructure compared to RFID. The success of the project has led to discussions about how our client could equip more of its logistics hubs with this solution to further enhance efficiency.
