Asset Tracking

  • 1. How long does the battery last? Can I change or charge the battery? What is the lifetime of individual TAGs?

The battery lasts for up to five years or up to two years for TAG2 with sensors. It depends how often you use the TAG. The battery can not be replaced or recharged. We also offer a TAG that is powered directly from a single-phase 230V AC network.

  • 2. When will the Android app be available?

We already have Android tablet apps available. We are also planning a smartphone version but we have not set the release date yet.

  • 4. Is it possible to use TAGs in flammable environment?

TAGs have been tested to resist temperatures up to 80°C.

  • 21. How is data secured?

By using a security encryption key.

  • 5. Can TAGs be tracked using GPS?

TAGs are not equipped with their own GPS sensors but their location data can be retrieved using a reading device such as a TAG Finder, a smartphone or a tablet.

  • 6. Can I track the TAG position on the map?

You can track the TAG position on the map when it is close to a reading device with Bluetooth.

  • 7. What are the benefits of Asset Tracking if I am currently using RFID?

RFID requires special and much more expensive reading devices. In the case of BLE you only need a regular smartphone or a tablet with a Bluetooth sensor, and the distance you need to read passive RFID TAGs is much shorter. In addition, BLE readers can, unlike RFID, read hundreds of TAGs simultaneously.

  • 8. Is it possible to integrate deTAGtive data from cloud into your own system, eg SAP?

Yes, it is possible. DeTAGtive uses a web interface based on common standards. We ourselves at ZF use it together with the SAP system.

  • 9. How many TAGs does a single TAG Finder read at a time and what is its maximum range?

This depends on the number of WiFi networks used in the area but it usually reads more than 300 TAGs in locations with several WiFi networks. Theoretically, the maximum reach is 100 metres.

  • 10. What storage, capacity and processing options does the cloud have? Are there any restrictions in the cloud?

We store the data in the Microsoft Azure cloud where there is no limit to the amount of data stored for a customer.

  • 11. What kind of information can be stored in a single TAG? What is its maximum memory?

TAG1 (without sensors) does not use memory to store user data, TAG2 and TAG3 (with sensors) can store thousands of events until they are read and sent to the cloud. You can use the 1 Mb memory repeatedly. Cloud serves as primary data storage.

  • 12. Can you measure the BLE signal in a closed container? If so, how?

It depends on the characteristics of the material but it is possible. The signal uses the same frequency as WiFi/Bluetooth, which does not penetrate closed metal containers.

  • 13. Does deTAGtive enable overseas tracking eg. shipping across the Atlantic Ocean? What happens if there is no TAG Finder, a connectable device or a mobile app?

Yes, deTAGtive allows overseas tracking. If there are no readers on the ship (a TAG Finder, a smartphone, a tablet) and there is usually no GPS signal, TAGs store all the events in their memory. Once the TAG is within reach of a reading device and the GPS signal (eg when the ship enters the port) all stored data issent to the cloud. In this case, tracking does not work in real time.

  • 14. Are other devices using the same technology interfering with each other?

When using a reasonable number of TAGs as well as WiFi and Bluetooth, devices do not interfere.

  • 15. Is it possible to carry out certain actions related to detect some events such as setting parameters, thresholds limits or filters?

Yes, thresholds limits can be easily set up using a tablet, a smartphone or even remotely using a TAG Finder.

  • 16. Is it possible to deactivate a specific sensor in the TAG?

Yes, you can deactivate individual sensors, eg to save battery power.

  • 17. Is it possible to use BLE TAGs separately with our own HW and SW?

Yes, if you are interested in connecting TAGs to your HW and SW, we are ready to provide you with a communicative protocol of the TAG advertising mode.

  • 18. What are the costs of Asset Tracking?

The cost of TAGs reflects the costs of running the entire service for two years from the date of purchase. Each additional year is subject to a lump sum payment. We also offer 24/7 assistance throughout the year.

  • 19. In what modes can the service be operated?

We currently provide three modes - live, continuous logging and sensor data. Individual modes differ in terms of battery consumption.
